“Food For Your Face…& a recipe for ‘Pretty Pink Smoothie’.”

♥Hi Friends!

“We are surrounded by environmental toxins.  Substances that may cause distress or disease to our bodies can be found in everything that we eat, in everything that we drink and even in the air we breathe…Our bodies have a variety of mechanisms for dealing with this toxicity, but the current total load exceeds the body’s ability to adapt.  When our bodies fail to break down or remove these toxins, the only other way to deal with them is through sequestration.  The body will try to deposit these compounds into tissue to minimize their potential damage.”  A nice little lesson on toxins and how they create disease, from invisiblekillers.com.

PHYSICAL toxins are everywhere.  (And so are SPIRITUAL and EMOTIONAL ones for that matter.)  They come at us constantly and there’s really no way to completely avoid them.  I remember being a little freaked out trying to figure out how I could totally eradicate them from my life.  Ha!  Good luck with that Katie!  And since we do not live in a perfect world (and we’re not suppose to), I soon realized there is NO way to be toxin free.  (I have a tendency to OCD for a minute and then calm down after reality and logic set in.)  That’s why it’s SO important that what we eat, drink, clean with, and beautify ourselves with, is as non-toxic and as close to the way God created it.  Remember, we want to detoxify and replenish.  And unless you have some real HEALING to do like I did, because our bodies are AMAZING, we are made to get rid of the junk that comes our way.  And might I add, quite efficiently.

In studies from 2005 and 2009, cord blood from newborns was tested and found to contain over 200 chemicals.  If we think that the products we use in and around our homes doesn’t have any impact on us or our families, we’re out in left field!  Using informed decisions and with quiet confidence, we must take responsibility for our choices to insure our homes are as free from toxins as possible.

After the diet change in our family, I naturally gravitated toward changing the chemicals we used on a daily basis.  As I looked around for a more organic, green, skin care line, I was a little stressed at just how much they can cost.  So, I studied what was in them, did a little “Google”ing to see what others did and came up with my own cost effective “line of skin care” (if I may).  This makes me sound very clever, but it was actually quite simple.  (I’m sure Father looks down and thinks, “Children?  Why are you making your lives so complicated?”)

There is a noticeable difference to the texture, color and look of my skin since I started feeding it from the outside as well as the inside.  Our skin is our largest organ and sucks up everything we put on it, where it is absorbed right in to our bodies, either HEALING us or inundating us with more toxins.  What we put on the outside is almost as important as what we put on the inside.

My next four posts will be dedicated to what we use to HEAL our skin and it’s TOTALLY awesome stuff!  It’s “food for your face”.  So before we get started here’s another really great smoothie recipe that will help you glow from the inside and the out!

♥Love you!

This is another unique tasting, fiber packed, alkalizing, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, detoxing, brain boosting, nutrient dense, HEALING smoothie for the adventurous.  I think the celery and lemon make it quite refreshing!  Contrary to popular belief, celery is very good for you, even if it’s mostly water.  If you want to make a smaller batch, cut the recipe in half and put half of the dandelion greens, beet, celery, lemon and apple in the freezer for another day.

PRETTY PINK SMOOTHIE

  • spinach and dandelion greens filled half way up Vitamix container
  • 1 tsp raw wheat grass powder*
  • 1 Tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 small to medium beet, washed and cut off from leaves (save greens in the freezer for smoothies)
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 small-medium lemon (all of it)
  • 1 small-medium Fuji apple
  • 1 nub ginger
  • squirt of raw honey, about 2 Tbsp
  • frozen strawberries filled to top
  • purified water to top line

Place greens in Vitamix container, chop beet, celery, lemon and apple and place rest of ingredients, in order, on top of greens.  Blend on high for 1 minute.  While it’s blending, continue adding strawberries in the hole in the lid for added thickness.  Drink at least 32 oz for better HEALING results.

*If you are planning on having more greens during the day you can omit the wheat grass.
