“The Tale of My Happy Bladder!…& a recipe for ‘PB&H Bites’.”

♥Hi Friends!

It’s probably been at least 10 years, but most likely more, when at my yearly physical, my OB/GYN asked me if I had a prolapsed bladder.  Apparently I didn’t understand the question because I answered, “I don’t know.  I don’t think so.”  She then asked me if it ever gave me problems to which I replied, “Only when I run.”  She then proceeded with my exam at which time she assured me that I did indeed have a prolapsed bladder.  Lucky me!  Later I realized how much tilting my hips when clearing my throat and spitting out my toothpaste, and crossing my legs when coughing or sneezing, along with all the other little tricks we as women do, had become second nature to me.  My poor sad bladder.  But temporarily housing 5 little bodies on top of it had done a number on it.  Fast forward to a couple of months ago, after a few years in to our journey towards total HEALTH.  I will try as best as I can to describe the following scenario so that those of you who have been to Salt Lake City can follow, and those of you who haven’t can also follow.

I was running late one afternoon for a wedding at the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  I drove downtown and parked the car across the street from the Temple under the Conference Center, a rather large and impressive building that can seat around 21,000 people.  As soon as I exited my car I started running and didn’t stop (except for the light at South Temple) until I reached the entrance to the Temple.  My path took me through the parking garage, up the stairs, out the west side of the building, across a small courtyard, up two small flights of stairs to the south side of the building, south across South Temple (a street), east along the wall on the north side of Temple Square (the property where the Temple, Tabernacle and 2 visitor centers are located), around the corner to the entrance on the east side,  through the doors, where quite out of breath I finally stopped and gathered myself before heading in to the ceremony.  Although I didn’t run a marathon, or a 5K, or even 1/2 a mile, I was bookin’ it pretty good.  And in a skirt and flats instead of running shorts and Nikes!  I remember thinking in the back of my mind that something felt different as I was making my way from my car to the Temple.  And a little while later, when my brain had time to process it and I had time to think about, it dawned on me just exactly what had happened.  Nothing.  Nothing whatsoever happened to me as I was sprinting that day!  But before that, as far as my bladder was concerned, whenever I jogged, or ran, or especially sprinted (or coughed or sneezed for that matter), something always happened.  I realized, that all of a sudden, just like that, my bladder was a little happier.  I don’t know about you ladies, but if my bladder is a little happier, I’m a lot happier!

When I first started this blog I had it in my mind that I would write a few posts on HEALING and then be done with it.  But this whole journey is about HEALING.  As I try to consistently move forward, little aches and pains disappear here and there, and I slowly improve.  I realize now how silly that was of me to even think that, since that’s often what I’m inspired to write about and because HEALING is exactly the reason we have come to this earth.  Through the Atonement we can HEAL SPIRITUALLY, PHYSICALLY and EMOTIONALLY from all that life throws at us.  What a blessing!

Is my bladder completely HEALED?  No.  Do I stand upright when coughing now?  Not all the time.  But it’s getting better.  And I can run now like I did as a teenager!

♥Love you!

When I was a child I would make these little peanut butter balls that consisted of peanut butter, honey and powdered milk.  I loved being able to make something myself, rolling them out with my hands and then eating them on the spot!  I never had leftovers.  The premise behind them was good, but the peanut butter full of other things besides peanuts, the pasteurized honey, and the chemically processed powdered milk made it a not so HEALTHY snack.  So I put together a recipe that kids will enjoy (and teenagers and adults too) that contains heart HEALTHY, brain developing fats that we should be eating every day.  Including our kids!

PB&H BITES

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (I buy the Kirkland organic from Costco that only contains peanuts and salt.)
  • 1/4-1/2 cup raw honey
  • 1 1/4 cups steel cut oats or 1 3/4 cups rolled oats
  • 2 Tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds (Cut down amount and omit these from part of the dough for little ones who can’t chew them yet.)

Process oats in Vitamix or blender until it’s flour.  Place  all ingredients in bowl and incorporate as much as possible with a stiff spatula.  Using a large spoon, scrape the bottom of the bowl and knead together with hands until mixed.  Roll in balls and eat as you go, chewing well.  Or place in a container in the fridge for up to 5 days.  The best thing about this recipe is that the kids can help you, or depending on the age can do it themselves.
