“You say what is in that cough syrup!?!…& a recipe for ‘KATIE’S COUGH ELIXIR’.”

♥Hi Friends!

I haven’t been as present on my blog the last couple of months, really the last 6-8 months.  I’ve been doing a lot of HEALING.  Like the last 10% from a lifetime of SPIRITUAL, PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL dis-ease.  And sometimes crossing the finish line can make you sprint harder and leave you more out of breath than the previous 90% of the race did.  It’s all good stuff actually.  I’ve been doing a lot of brain tissue HEALING and connecting, and wow it’s nice to process and think much more efficiently!  (Yes you can HEAL the brain!). Those are always bonuses in life eh?  And although I will continue on with a lifetime of HEALING (that’s what we’re here for), it will be nice to start with a clean slate, walking past and leaving the old stuff behind.  And I am grateful everyday for the miracles I have witnessed in my life!

In my journey over the last 10 years, I’ve been blessed with insights and experiences that I could not have paid a university, professor or on-line course to teach me.  And besides, God and His ways are the best teacher and all He asks in payment is a “broken heart and a contrite spirit”.  Which in reality, the things we learn with our “broken heart” and “contrite spirit” are in all actuality a payback to us from a loving God.  And a payback for what?  A little humility and obedience on our part?  We can’t ever get out ahead of Father.  He’s pretty awesome that way!  And as I’ve started helping others down His pathway to HEALING, I pull from all those amazing paybacks, insights and blessings that He and the gift of His son’s Atonement have given me, and is available to all.  That’s the “good news” right there huh!?!!!

As a side note, I’ve been posting a lot of thoughts, quotes and favorite things of mine on my Instagram @organickatie.  It’s kind of been my mini blog as of late and hasn’t required so much brain processing.  If you don’t have an Instagram account, I’ve started sharing the posts to my Organickatie.com Facebook page, along with some great articles I come across and want to share with you about all this wonderful HEALING stuff.

Now, on to today’s post!  I wanted to share our favorite homemade couch syrup recipe.  Can’t stand all the nasty, chemical-laden, store bought stuff, loaded with ingredients I can’t even pronounce.  In my opinion they don’t work, fill our bodies with harmful chemicals and aren’t safe for man, woman or child.  (Click here an here for more expert opinions than mine.)  So, not only does this recipe help calm a cough, it alkalizes, clears phlegm, purifies the liver, kills viruses and bacteria, and the raw apple cider vinegar in it fills you full of nutrients.  And it tastes pretty good to boot!  ‘KATIE’S COUGH ELIXIR’ for the win!  My oldest Emily likes to stick a straw in it and sip it all day, even in the absence of a cold.  She’s kind of awesome in that weird sort of “things-that-are-good-for-me-taste-soooooo-amazing-because-they-are-actually-HEALING-my-SPIRITBODY-and-MIND” sort of way.  In full disclosure, my youngest Kjerstin can’t stand it.  But she doesn’t like a lot of things.  We gotta have at least one in the home!

So, mix up a little of my elixir and store it in the fridge for the next time you are in need.  And better yet, drink a couple of Tbsp in some warm water first think in the morning to stay out ahead of it.

♥Happy HEALING Friends!  Love you!

KATIE’S COUGH ELIXIR

  • ½  cup purified water
  • ½  cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • ¼  cup plus raw honey, or to taste
  • 1-2  Tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 ½  Tbsp organic raw apple cider vinegar
  • 3  drops of doTerra On Guard essential oil or 1  drop orange essential oil and 2  drops of cinnamon essential oil (The oils are optional but really take it up a notch!)

Mix well and store in pint jar.  Stir before each use.  If making in small batches as the recipe indicates and you are using it up quickly, there is no need to refrigerate and will last for 1 week.  If not, store in refrigerator for up to 2 months.

*You can also drink this in the morning to get your BODY up and running.  Just add 2 Tbsp to 1 cup warm water and enjoy!

Here’s the supplies!  Note the zester/grater under the ginger.  I didn’t get a pic of my citrus juicer in it.  But I highly recommend both of these items in any kitchen!

I store in conveniently in a wide mouth pint jar.
