“The evolution of Disease and the treatment for it…& a recipe for ‘Loaded Oatmeal’.”

♥Hi Friends!

On Jason Vale’s documentary “SUPER JUICE ME”, the almost 93 year old Charlotte Gerson of the Gerson Institute says “All chronic degenerative diseases are caused by two, and only two major problems.  Toxicity and deficiency.  We have to detoxify and flood the body with nutrients.  Once you understand the cause you got the answer for the cure.”  Take a minute to think about that last sentence.  I know I had to.  Remember that disease isn’t just PHYSICAL.  It has EMOTIONAL roots.  (And sometimes SPIRITUAL, although SPIRITUAL practices always HEAL).  Today I’m focusing on the PHYSICAL aspect of it.

The following is a list of as many of my HEALTH issues as I can remember.  Keep in mind, even though I was told there was nothing I could do for many of them, I am no longer on any medications, and have HEALED most of these issues.  As I continue to learn and move ahead, I continue to HEAL.  IT IS NEVER TO LATE TO START HEALING AND I WANT YOU TO FEEL HOPE!

Beginning from birth:  ♦Amblyopia (one of my eye muscles never developed) ♦Strabismus (woke up from a nap when I was two and was cross-eyed and had corrective eye surgery at age 5) ♦glasses at age 4 ♦still wearing contacts, two in one eye (it’s called piggy backing with a soft under a hard so that my cornea doesn’t rub on the hard one) and nothing in the other because I don’t really use it ♦Keratoconus (cornea disease with supposedly no cure, only eventual cornea transplant) ♦from all of this I’m legally blind in both eyes ♦knees always hurt when I exercised ♦teeth issues (sensitivity, soft teeth, cavities, root canals, crowns, pulled teeth from failed root canals) ♦gum issues (sensitivity, receding, bleeding) and as far as the mouth pain I’ve experienced, I’d rather give birth without any meds ♦severe depression with my second pregnancy ♦high blood pressure and subsequent meds (genetic from both birth parents) ♦bed rest with the last three pregnancies from elevated blood pressure and those three delivered at 37 weeks, the third pregnancy landed me in the hospital for a week before delivery ♦severe digestive issues for years (stomach aches and pains, acid indigestion, always worrying about what and when I ate and staying close to a bathroom because of sudden diarrhea) ♦eventual gallbladder removal surgery with 3 hernias repaired at the same time ♦debilitating varicose vein pain (you gotta love being pregnant and carrying a baby all summer in the Houston heat wearing compression hose) and hemorrhoids (they are related and genetic for me) ♦overweight ♦high cholesterol (genetic) ♦genetic thyroid issues (one weekend I completely tanked and slept all the time for 2 months until surgery to remove a nodule from my thyroid, and subsequent thyroid meds) ♦along with all the thyroid issues came a lot of coughing and clearing my throat, and choking and constricted throat that would close off all the time and I would almost pass out because I couldn’t breath ♦also going along with that was snoring (I could run circles around my husband in a snoring competition) ♦again with the thyroid the inability to communicate my feelings, foggy brain, bad recall ♦tired, lack of motivation, and ineffective ♦cankers ♦swollen ankles and water retention ♦achy joints ♦unhealthy hair (brittle, dry, lifeless) ♦skin issues (acne, congested skin, dark circles and tiny white cysts around eyes) ♦red, cracked and bleeding hands in the winter ♦worry, stress and nightmares ♦sleep issues ♦PMS (besides all that goes with it I had a terrible time controlling my feelings and temper) ♦other annoying aches and pains

I recognize that there are those out there with much more severe and debilitating HEALTH issues.  I list mine here only to share my experience in HEALING, that to me is nothing short of a miracle.  Although it has been hard, since I tend to be an optimist I have handled these issues pretty well, always thinking that it was a part of life.  Because of that I didn’t realize just how UNHEALTHY I was, and the path I was heading down, as I slowly fell apart.

Maybe you’re like me where disease was slow and gradual.  Or maybe it came out of nowhere, with a heart attack or cancer diagnosis when you’ve always appeared to be HEALTHY.  You may stay HEALTHY most of your life and your problems won’t come until you are older and effect your quality of life in your later years.  And for some, your HEALTH issues are or will be EMOTIONAL.  But what we put on our bodies and in our bodies is directly related to disease of the SPRIT, the BODY and the MIND!

A lot more time and money is spent in managing disease in our country when HEALING is the answer.  To understand why, we need to talk about the evolution of disease.  When we come in contact with toxins and are not taking care of ourselves so that our bodies can eliminate them effectively, we create an acidic environment.  Disease LOVES an acidic environment!  It’s the equivalent of you living at a world class spa, where all your needs are met.  You eat the best foods, exercise on the most updated equipment with help from your very own personal trainer, and you get as much rest as you need.  It is the perfect environment to flourish and thrive.  But what you are really doing with that acidic environment, other than furnishing an endless vacation for disease, is creating inflammation.  Inflammation is the body’s way of protecting itself, but too much of it causes disease.   If you spend a little time learning about it, you will find all sorts of interesting studies and articles (with more coming out all the time) directly linking inflammation to disease.

So how do we get rid of inflammation and create a continual HEALING environment in our body?  I have come to understand that HEALING has 2 parts, DETOXIFY and REPLENISH.

1♥ DETOXIFY:  We have to continually rid our bodies of the toxins that come at us daily.  Of the sources of these toxins are the following:  Our SAD diets, (by the way I’m “anti-SAD” because “sad” is not a very HEALING or happy word and I like to be HEALING and happy), the water we drink, the air we breathe, the medications we take, our household and garden chemicals, and our makeup, skin care and beauty products.  Click here and here and here to read a few articles about toxic overload.  Two of the biggest ways we can detoxify our bodies are through HEALING foods and exercise.

  • HEALING FOODS:  High nutrient-dense diets (also called interestingly enough ANTI-INFLAMMATORY diets) full of raw greens, along with a variety of other veggies and fruits, good fats (raw nuts and seeds, avocadoes, coconut and HEALTHY oils like avocado, extra-virgin olive  and coconut), beans and legumes, and lots of clean and pure water, create an alkaline environment where disease can’t eat or breathe.  Basically it’s our CHOICE.  We can either feed disease, or starve it! 
  • EXERCISE:  Your lymphatic system is the highway by which your body pushes out toxins through sweat and urine.  From an article on womentowomen.com: “Amazingly, the lymphatic system has no central pump but depends on muscle contraction and manual manipulation to move fluid.”  And that is why exercise is one of the best ways to keep the lymphatic system moving.  

2♥  REPLENISH:  Read about the HEALING FOODS above.  As you detoxify through your food choices, you are replenishing at the same time.  Like Charlotte said, “Once you understand the cause you got the answer for the cure.”  Heavenly Father is infinite in His wisdom.  He has created us in His image and therefore when we rid ourselves of those toxins Satan loves to hand out, and then we generously give our bodies the right kind of fuel, miraculous HEALING can occur!

I’m am SO grateful for the HEALTH issues I’ve dealt with most of my life and the subsequent and continued HEALING that follows.  And there is hope because stories like mine happen all the time.  Besides the PHYSICAL HEALING, some of the beautiful gifts of this experience are the lessons I have learned like who I am and Whose I am, about trials and the blessings that follow, about His “Happy Path” and HEALING plan for all His children, and His HEALING POWER made available to all of us through His son.  WE ARE HIS CHILDREN!  That’s HEALING!

One day I threw this together, and used oatmeal, which my #2 likes.  I quite enjoy the quinoa.  Either way this recipe really is a “breakfast of champions”.

LOADED OATMEAL

  • ½-1 cup cooked steel cut oats (or you can use quinoa)
  • ½ banana, mashed
  • ½ of an apple, chopped
  • 2 Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
  • raw sunflower seeds (to taste)
  • raw pumpkin seeds (to taste)
  • 3 raw almonds, chopped
  • 3 raw walnuts, chopped
  • 1 ½ tsp flax seed, ground (the only reason I have a coffee grinder)
  • Any of the follow: coconut water, coconut milk, almond milk or any nut milk to taste.

Mash banana in bowl, add the rest of the ingredients, and mix.  Take your time and chew everything well.  This is loaded with heart HEALTHY nuts and seeds which you should be having every day.
