“Happy Hydrating…& a recipe for ‘Food For Your Face: Moisturizing’.”

♥Hi Friends!

Guess what I use for my moisturizer now, and what many of the organic, green (and might I add expensive) skin care lines use?  OIL!  OIL, OIL, OIL!  And do you want to know something else?  It’s not the scary monster we’ve come to think of it as.  It’s actually quite HEALING.  And it makes skin happy!

I can hear the questions and comments some of you may be asking and thinking.  “Why would I put more oil on my already oily face?”  “Won’t that clog my pores and make me break out?”  “It feels so heavy!”  Once again, I think the answer lies in keeping with products and ingredients that are as close to the way God made them because I truly believe our bodies recognize them better.  And oil is an AMAZING moisturizer for everyone!  Not just for those of us with less hydrated and “more mature” skin.

An article entitled “Should You Swap Your Daily Moisturizer For Face Oil?” by Kurt Soller, explains why oil works so well for all skin types.  He says, “With oily skin, these natural ingredients trick your skin into thinking it already has enough oil, shutting off sebum production and closing down the shine factory. In dry or blemished areas, the soothing plant materials also help to lock-in moisture by forming a protective barrier, while also cleaning out or refreshing pores to end irritation and quell redness. These traits make face oils great for dry, oily, or combination skin as they balance, detoxify, and mattify with just a minuscule amount of liquid.”

So, let’s talks oils.  Here’s some of my favorites, along with just one of many benefits listed under each.

♥BASE OILS-Argan, avocado and grapeseed are three of the most HEALING oils for your skin and could stand alone as a moisturizer.

  • Argan– High in vitamin E, it comes from the nut of the fruit of an Argan tree.  (Great for all skin types.)
  • Avocado– From the skin of the avocado.  A healing oil full of vitamin A, B, D and K.  (Best for dry skin.)
  • Grape Seed– Made from the grape seed.  High in antioxidant properties, tightens skin, and helps close your pores.  (Best for normal to oily skin.)

♥ENHANCING OILS- A nice addition to the base oil and gives your skin a variety of HEALING benefits that each of these has.

  • Hemp Seed–  A restorative oil full of omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids necessary for healthy cell reproduction.  (Store the leftover hemp seed oil in the fridge.)
  • Olive Squalane– Squalane lubricates and protects and is found naturally in the body.  Production decreases after age 30 so it’s great for “more mature” skin.
  • Pomegranate– Nourishes keratinocytes, a cell type which makes up 90% of the cells found in the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin).  These cells are protectors.
  • Rosehip– Boosts cell turnover rate.
  • Sea Buckthorn Seed– Exfoliates and therefore rejuvenates and HEALS.

♥ESSENTIAL OILS- Remember, the addition of an essential oil completely elevates the HEALING power of just about everything, including your skin care.  Good stuff!  Use a variety to expose your skin to differing HEALING benefits.  Click here for some info on the chemistry of essential oils and why they are SO AWESOME!

From an article on treehugger.com by Katherine Martinko, “Basic lotion is nothing more than oil emulsified in water, with alcohol added to help with evaporation and chemicals to help with the emulsification.  Conventional brands contain parabens for preservation, toxic fragrances (or more chemicals to mask the smell and make it ‘fragrance-free’), petrochemical-based emollients (to soften and give the impression of smooth, tight skin) and humectants (to enhance water absorption), penetration enhancers, and thickening agents.”   And this includes most of the store brand moisturizers out there.  Uhhhh, what?  Yuck!  Why is it that we’ve morphed, changed and added to the good moisturizers found naturally from our Father and filled with HEALING properties that make our skin happy?

So, be adventurous and unafraid of oil!  Try this wonderful product made from Mother Earth and authored by the Master Chemist Himself.  The ultimate goal?  Happy, hydrated skin.  So try happy hydrating Friends!

♥Love you!

Use the oils that feel right for you.  Remember, clear your mind, ask the right question, and then go with what you think of first.  Learn to listen to what your body is telling your mind.  Your skin’s needs change all the time and each time you fill your bottle, your oils may change.  It’s nice when you have family or friends to share the oils with so that you can have a wide variety.  You can even using a little of all the enhancing oils.

FOOD FOR YOUR FACE: MOISTURIZING

  • 2 oz dropper bottle
  • base oil
  •  enhancing oils
  • essential oil
    • blends: Benediction, or Meditation from Butterfly (Both full of HEALING oils.)
    • singles: frankincense, lavender (Both of these are calming and regenerating.)

To make, fill bottle half way with a base oil (or even a little of each) and then the rest of the way with equal amounts of 3 enhancing oils.

To use, drop customized oil in the palm of your hand and add 3 drops of an essential oil.  Apply on face and neck.  Since my skin is “more mature” now, and tends to be drier, I like to apply it first thing in the morning, when I get ready for the day (if that happens), and again before bedtime.  Any time of the day really.  My kids only need a few drops.

Some health food stores carry dropper bottles.  In Utah you can find them at Good Earth.  Or click here to order some from Abundant Health.

Click on each oil (except avocado which I get from Costco) for help in ordering the ones I use.  You can often find them at your local health food store.  Good Earth here in Utah has many of them.

  1. I LOVE your posts and recipes!!! But mostly I love YOU! It is so fun to read about your “journey”. I was actually going to call you and see if you had a better recipe for “deodorant” that works during summer without melting so bad. Then I saw your pit paste. I’m going to try it. Will it hold together during the warm weather?

    1. Hi Friend! I love you too! I’ve been quite please how thick the deodorant has stayed. It’s sits up on my bathroom counter and hasn’t really been melty (if that’s a word) like plain coconut oil. It’s just pasteyish (that’s not a word)! But it definitely won’t work in a roll-up deodorant stick.
